Mark Pellegrino: an aversion to arbitrary authority

In a podcast in December, Mark discussed his concerns about the impact of COVID. He pointed out that it started as ‘we need two weeks to flatten the curve’, and — at the time of recording — the government was telling people when they needed to wear a mask and who could enter their private property.

It’s this aspect that troubles Mark more than anything, because it sets a precedent and the government — whoever is in power — is reluctant to hand control back once it has expanded its power.

An aversion to arbitrary authority and jealously guarded freedom are what Mark thinks set America apart from the rest of the world, not the ‘jingoistic nonsense’ conservatives talk about.

Guarding your liberty should be something you should be jealous about because we know how easily it’s lost.
