On mice and magic

We caught up with the mouse Mark and Cody chased around the house and heard the story from his perspective.

I was minding my own business in the laundry room when the giant and his sidekick started chasing me. The giant says he was trying to “save” me, but from where I’m standing, being cornered by a human and a cat doesn’t feel much like a rescue mission. I managed to slip away and relocated to the office, specifically into the desk near the entertainment centre.

They caught up to me in the living room. The giant tried to trick me into a shoe — I made it look like I went in, but then I performed a little disappearing act. I eventually found a great hiding spot in the gears of a small trash can near the kitchen. It was perfect until the giant picked up the whole bin and carried me outside.

I spent the night inside a big recycling receptacle, locked in. He probably thought he had me trapped until morning, but by the time he came back to check, I was already gone. He even took the trash can to a “wild” area to let me go, but I wasn’t there to enjoy the view.

I haven’t shown my furry face for hours now. I think I’ve got him a bit worried, especially with some “exterminator” coming to lay traps. He calls me a “cute little bastard” and seems determined to save me, even though he can’t figure out how I move around. One minute I’m outside the desk, the next I’m inside. He opens a cupboard and — surprise! — there I am. He’s baffled by how I get around, but that’s just part of the magic. Supposedly the next step involves a long car ride miles away so I can go find a brand-new house to explore. But I kinda like it here.
