When you realize that commies and fascists differ only in non essentials, you realize the commie’s attempts to distinguish themselves from fascists is just plain hokum, and their false alts (us or them) are flat out bullshit.
Whether your rights are taken away by a droog who’s ends are the advancement of the proletariat or the nation state, it’s still the collective vs the individual; precisely what a representative republic is designed to combat in the interests of insulating the minority from mob rule.
The real choice is between collectivism, where your wants, needs and values are subservient to the group, or individualism, in which the power of the group is subordinated by the moral principle of rights, and your life is fully your own… The first always leads to perpetual violence, impoverishment, and unhappiness.
