Empathy is not a cardinal virtue

“In today’s culture where people are considered determined by everything BUT their own wills; and suffering, lack, and pain are considered normal aspects of life; where sacrifice and loss are virtues empathy is the number one moral character trait: a community of sufferers and those who feel their pain are considered an ethical ideal. But empathy is NOT a cardinal virtue. It is a good. It is necessary quality to have when living with others. But it is not a cardinal (primary) virtue. Reason is. And reason and respect for reason should lead you to treat others with the respect due a rational being. The dignity of reason and right.”
