Mark Pellegrino on democracy

Some interesting thoughts on Democracy in Clarence Carson’s ‘Basic History of the United States volume 3’ (yes 1 & 2 are very good). Jacksonian Democracy was NOT the disposition of political power on the majority, but the elimination of political power so that the Demos was free to live life as they chose. IOW’s it was the elimination of arbitrary political power over the people for the advancement of ANY in group. This is a good way to look at democracy, not as majority rule, but as the restraint of political power so that all people are free.
