The Daily Objective: Presidents’ Day

  • Stoppage Time will be on Clubhouse every day after The Daily Objective
  • Rucka’s first good president is George Washington because he was a man of principle
  • By what metric do we measure a good president? Presidents who have reputations for being the greatest presidents of all time — they’re the authoritarians who have done more to ruin the constitution and come between you and your individual rights. You can probably count the good ones on one hand (Mark)
  • Teddy Roosevelt is the worst — set precedents in getting involved around the world and going beyond the proper role of government (Rucka)
  • Abraham Lincoln was one of the first to expand executive power to the degree he did (Mark)
  • Woodrow Wilson was a more intellectual version of a bully (Mark)
  • Wilson took America into WWI and explicitly said it would be a great national adventure — what a sick person. He was racist, even for his time (Rucka)
  • Coolidge — he wasn’t perfect, but he gave citizenship to all native Americans (Rucka)
  • Warren Harding got us through a depression that could’ve been worse. After Harding all the presents increased statism (Mark)
  • A lot of anarchists like Trump — Rucka considers him one of the worst.
  • The presidency is a rogues’ gallery for the most part. There were a handful who understood their job and didn’t let the power get to their heads (Mark)
  • How about kids aspire to invent a technology we can’t live without rather than aspire to be president (Rucka)
