“Political parties were rightly feared by our founders as a means of tribalizing influence. They knew parties would take precedence over principles eventually. Originally parties developed in America re an ideological split over the power of government. Hamiltonian Federalists wanted a strong state akin to America’s former patron England. Jeffersonian anti federalists wanted a weak state with political power vested in localities… not nationally. The hamiltonians ultimately won with the slow slide into full statism the natural result. In point of fact there is really only one way of looking at government that is legitimate, ie leads to human flourishing; and that is as a policeman and arbiter who mitigates violence by subordinating it to objective rules. A gov that leaves innocent people alone is the only good gov”
