Bureaucracy gone mad

Mark had a dreadful time at the airport in Paris this morning when Air France refused to let him and Frankie board the plane to the US. Frankie is registered as a service dog, has the appropriate service dog paperwork, and has flown with Air France several times before — but this wasn’t enough for Air France. Here’s how it unfolded.

@airfrance used to like these guys… but they have been totally in accommodating and are potentially screwing me out of my job in Chicago.

Mark R Pellegrino

@airfrance is literally killing me. My dog has flown in them as a service animal three times and they are refusing us.

Mark R Pellegrino

Looks like I will at minimum miss my 1120 flight to the states. Frankie is handling this way better than I… @airfrance should take note what a chill dog he is.

Mark R Pellegrino

@airfrance is denying us access because I did not bring my doctor’s form… only the DOT approval of his service animal status. 1) because @airfrance approved him before (twice) and 2) I thought I was traveling on Delta where he’s approved for a year.

Mark R Pellegrino

This is what happens when rules take presence over reality and humanity @airfrance.

@airfrance completely dislocating a massive schedule of events and people dependent on my presence because reality matters less than rules.

Mark R Pellegrino

now I’ve missed this flight because of bureaucrats at @airfrance . Will I miss employment too? What about the people watching our animals at home who have a fixed travel schedule themselves?

Mark R Pellegrino

Missed that flight. Have to stay the night in Paris… miss hotel reservations and flights already booked PLUS pay for another flight out of Paris. Thank you @airfrance

Mark R Pellegrino

I haven’t needed the copy of the docs Prescription for a long time… just the DOT approval number and forms. The paperwork I had was sufficient for four flights to and from France AND to and from Germany. I only have a email RECORD of my request from my doc… he gave me the physical Prescription in person. So NOW I have to try to get a conference call with him when he goes into his office nine hours from now… and hope he will be able to write the Prescription, and scan it to me before tomorrow so I can actually leave. Fifty billion things are timed to my getting home on time.

Mark R Pellegrino

[Frankie]’s ok. Had water. Now we are back at the house. I have to wait till my doctor’s office opens in LA. Then not even sure I can get the letter done on time.

Mark R Pellegrino

I’ve been in contact with my doc. He’s on it.

Mark R Pellegrino

Let’s hope Mark gets a flight out to the states tomorrow. Chicago needs him!
