Mark Pellegrino talks about lifting Virgil Poe off the page

Mark Pellegrino Advent Calendar Day 14

Video Transcript

[The most difficult thing was] making him my own because there was suggestions in the script that I think the writer identified with that I had no idea how to how to bring about. You know, he had I think a very specific vision physically of who Virgil was that I didn’t fit. And of his magnetism or attractiveness that I don’t feel I fit either. I’m not a lothario by nature. I’m not that guy by nature, so I had to find things in myself that I thought connected me to my wife, and let the other things just be suggestions that are in the story, I don’t have to work on, you know. So I made it that I made her laugh and our connection was humor and fun. And, you know, we were always able to have a great time together, and that’s what gave us our connection. But that’s not really on the page so much, that’s just in my own interpretation. What’s on the page is that I could sort of pop and break dance and I can’t. I can’t do that. I probably could if I practiced but when I got the part, I had surgery on my ankle and I couldn’t, you know, and there was Covid. So there was no way that I could bring somebody into my home to help me practice some kind of, you know, rap dancing.
